Today we came to Filoli
To celebrate and have high tea
Raindrops greeted our arrival
We grabbed umbrellas for survival
We walked about the garden walls
Beckoned on by beauty’s call
Tulips all standing in a row
The sun peeked out to say “hello”
Then awed to silence by the thrill
From golden field of daffodils
The roses were not yet in bloom
I thought- I’ll have to come back soon
A longing wish from deepest soul
I’d love to watch this garden grow
From up on high, the Lord looked down
Tilting back His shining crown
He watched as we enjoyed high tea
Dressed in all our finery
The women with their flowered hats
Who were not avoiding pastry fats
Like the arrangement of a spring bouquet
One lady won’t eat mayonnaise
And her sister who will not eat meat
They both found something sweet to eat
A little girl with golden curls
(The center of her parent’s world)
Next to great-grandma- What can one give
To 90 years of life well lived?
Great-grandma’s smile lights up her face
And seasons the whole room with grace
The Lord smiled too, and then He spoke
“I love to watch this garden grow”
