Why I Can’t Be a Mermaid

I love the ocean

Surface shades of blue, green, gray

Mighty crashing of the waves

Powerful as sounds of thunder

To go under

As through a door

Explore

Glide along the ocean floor

See creatures I’ve not seen before

And all the mysteries of the deep

Sunken ships and pirate’s gold

History to me unfolds

And tiny treasures I would carry

In a Ziplock bag to keep

Then to the open sea I’d race

Hold my head high above the waves

Get a 360 view of only sea

Like glimpses of eternity

Although this all sounds so exciting

(Wish I could be part of that world)

Siren songs to me inviting

But I don’t like water on my curls
