Sounds of Solitude

A hike is blessed solitude

Where no rude sounds

would dare intrude

Like knocks on doors

and ringing phones

or honking horns and cellphone songs

The only sound that I can hear

Is nature ringing loud and clear

God is!  He lives!  He cares- It’s true!

Just look at all He’s made for you!

I hear the sound of each footfall

As I view wonders great and small

The mountains sprinkled white with snow

And wildflowers line the trail below

I hear the music of the river

Crashing over rocks like thunder

She sings with unrelenting pace

“I cannot stay; I am in haste!”

A little sound -a gentle breeze

Like laughter blowing through the trees

It dances ‘round

then touches down

For several moments lingers near

Brushes my face, then disappears…

This trail is steep, I must admit

(But it’s somehow not like me to quit)

And then a sound fills me with dread

Thoughts of Darth Vader fill my head

that heavy breathing-

Out   and   In

God save me from the shape I’m in!
