I saw God’s law as black and white
I thought my judgment justified
We found this woman caught within
A sin that I would not commit
I felt as right as right could be
And all my friends agreed with me
We gathered stones and took her to
This Jesus- to see what he would do
The teacher answered not a word
Just as if he hadn’t heard
The accusations that we sent
And our suggested punishment
Silently He looked around
Then stooped and wrote upon the ground
The words He wrote reminded me
Of some forgotten part of me
I don’t know him- how did He see
Into the very heart of me?
Against my will, the hot tears came
My face fell now with blush of shame
The weight grew heavy in my hand
I dropped my stone
I turned and ran
“So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said unto them, ‘He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.’ ” John 8: 7 (KJV)
