What Counts

Some Christians tell me I don’t love You

Because my tongue is tied

All the beauty of salvation

Seems somehow trapped inside

The opportunities I long for

I daily pray will be mine

But when opportunity comes knocking

I never reach the door in time

Oh your spirit gives me wings to fly

As on You I meditate

But in real life the right reply

Occurs to me two days late

And the days turn into weeks

And into months and years

When my life should yield a harvest

I’m still sewing in tears

So they say I’m a pseudo-Christian

And not a real disciple

Yet strangely that’s not how I feel

And it’s not how I read the Bible

The Bible says You died for me

While I was still a sinner

And the blood You shed at Calvary

Declares that I’m a winner

And I know that You have saved me

And I know this love is real

With all my heart, mind, soul and strength

No matter how I feel

So I ask dear Lord that you complete

The good work you began

I can’t change myself into someone else

But I believe you can

“Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect?  It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God , who also maketh intercession for us.  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”

Romans 8:33-35a ( KJV )
